Why Massage? Classes

A method of natural health care founded by

 Joseph B. Stephenson in 1922.

Brenda L. Messling is a  licensed massage instructor and is one of the few Stevenson Method of Creative Healing Instructors in the country.  She was a student of Rebecca A. Jackson and is a member of Joseph B. Stephenson's Creative Healing Institute.

Brenda graduated  from her first Stevenson Method class in June 2000 and began teaching the work to her massage students that same year.  She was authorized to teach the full curricula in 2004 after taking the full class twice, working with the instructor one on one many times and practicing the work with clients for 4 years.   She has taught The Stevenson Method numerous times to clients and massage therapists in the United States and also assisted with a class in London, England.

Many people have never heard of The Stephenson Method.  It is a type of work similar to massage but in many ways  totally different.

While general massage addresses the muscles and soft tissues such as tendons and ligaments, Stephenson's Method may also work specifically

to address issues in the circulatory and nervous systems.  Stephenson believed that the inner body could be affected by working on the outer body.

The method works specific sequences of manipulation of the body, tissues and fluids as well and specific intent of purpose by the practitioner.

The Stevenson Method uses specific movements with very light to very powerful pressure depending on the intention of the treatment.  The practitioner uses 'attention' as well as 'intention' to create the atmosphere for specific change so the body can heal itself.

For example:   The back treatment has several specific movements that may be used depending on the condition it is in.  The 'scissor movement' is used to soothe the nerves of the spine.

Other movements are used to remove swelling from the low back, or replace tissue that is pulled away from its bony attachment.

The Stevenson Method has been used for years to treat organ related disturbances.

The treatments used for the abdomen are also useful for tension and discomfort in the shoulders and low back due to muscle attachments and referral areas.

Abdominal massage also widely used in Dr. Gowri Motha's Gentle Birth Method regimen for pre-natal patients.

Head and neck treatments are great for headaches (both for tension and migraines), face pain, shoulder tension and sinus problems.
