Therapeutic Stretch 2011

ASBMT approved for 6 hours

For this class you will need:
  1. Soft comfortable clothes: we will be stretching and moving in all directions.  If you wear restrictive clothing "like tight jeans" you will not be able to participate.
  2. Blanket/rug/yoga mat: You will need a blanket or rug for the floor exercises. The room has carpet but it is not something I want to lie face down on.
  3. A pillow or neck if you need while lying supine.
  4. Your massage table
  5. Sheets for your table
  6. A willing and adventurous attitude will make it more fun.
 

Class Overview

The purpose of this class is to provide therapists with some quality time for performing a session of stretches and strengthening exercises that will target muscles that get chronically used during their work. It will also give you a few things you may use in your therapeutic massage.

  1. The first half of the class will be stretching for the therapist. 

  2. The second half will be a series of Enertropic therapy points and active stretches that I use most often with my clients for the upper body. 

 

Class syllabus  - Part 1  Stretching the therapist.

All class participates together each person stretching alone, except during partnered section.  This is not an advanced routine and is safe for everyone.

  1. Breathing exercises while supine.
  2. Gentle supine stretches for ankles, legs,
  3. Series specific for low back pain or sciatica (handouts for this part will be provided and you may use them with your clients).
  4. Standing stretches for upper body
  5. Partnered stretches
  6. Kinetic awareness exercises

Class syllabus - Part 2  Stretching the client

This class will include demonstration of movements as well as a chance to practice on each other.

  1. Introduction to Enertropic Therapy.

  2. Importance of stretching your relaxed client.

  3. Using active and passive stretching

  4. Releasing the shoulder girdle and neck.

  5. Releasing the arms, wrists and hands.
